Florence "Merle" Vincente Hendricks

Florence Vincente Hendricks, affectionately known to some as Merle, Sister Merle,Teach, Mommy, Aunty, Granana, Grandma and KumKum was welcomed into the memories of her heavenly father, Jehovah on the 18th of August, 2025, at her home in Ocala, Florida. Born on the 13th of December, 1944, in the beautiful island of St. Thomas, Jamaica, Merle's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her boundless love, and her commitment to nurturing the minds and spirits of those around her. Merle's early years in Jamaica were filled with the infectious rhythms of the island and the warmth of a close-knit community. Her passion for education was evident from a young age, and upon completing her high school education, she dedicated herself to the noble profession of teaching. She attended Shortwood Teachers College and graduated with her bachelor's degree in education. For 55 years, she guided countless students with a gentle hand and a firm resolve, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Her life was not only one of service to her students but also to her beloved family. Merle built a life filled with joy and purpose, raising their children Nodean Whyte, Jacqueline Hendricks, Sandy Hendricks, and Jossette Hendricks-Doyley with love and the guiding principles of her faith. The joy of her life multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild: Mickhalle, Donald, Jhordane, Daniel, and Jewelle, and each great-grandchild: Khimoya Todd, Khiyon Todd and Leila-Charm Walker, who will carry the legacy of her love and teachings. She is also survived by her husband Joslyn Hendricks, son-in-law Michael Doyley, and grand son-in-law Theo Todd. Merle's siblings, Desrene, Courtney, Locksley, Derrick, Patricia, Daniel, and other siblings from her father's side, shared in the richness of her love and the depth of her kindness. Her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and special friends found in her a confidante and a beacon of unwavering support, reflecting the light of her Christian faith in every interaction. A devout Christian, Merle lived her life as a shining example, sharing the Good News about God's Kingdom. Her involvement with the community as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, was marked by her tireless efforts to bring comfort and hope to those around her. Her love for dancing, music, cooking, and gardening were not merely hobbies but extensions of her vibrant spirit and her desire to create beauty in the world. Merle's selfless nature was evident in her dedication to helping those in need. She believed that to serve others was to serve God, and she did so with a loving and faith-filled heart. Her presence was a source of strength and solace to many, and her absence will be profoundly felt. As she sleeps on in Jehovah's memory, we do so with the assurance that her life was one well-lived. She embodied the virtues of love, faith, and selflessness, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us. During this pause without her, we take comfort in the knowledge that her memory will forever dance in the hearts of those who loved her and in the lives of those she touched. We rejoice in the wonderful assurance that Florence Vincente Hendricks, our dear Merle, now rests peacefully awaiting the resurrection (John 5:28,29). Her memory will be cherished and her lessons will remain with us.
