Ernestine Pryor

REMEMBERED WITH LOVEErnestine A. PryorErnestine was the only child of Richard and Laura Johnson. She was born onFebruary 17, 1925 in Washington, DC and grew up in Georgetown. At that timeGeorgetown was an iconic African American community filled with hard workingblack folks who had deep pride in their neighborhood. Her Georgetown churchhome was Alexander Memorial Baptist Church. Ernestine attended DC publicschools, obtained a Bachelor's degree and was employed by the District ofColumbia government.On September 8, 1946, Ernestine married Robert Pryor, another Georgetownresident. From their union, two children were born, Robert Jr .and Gaila.Ernestine and Robert worked hard to give their children every advantage possibleand raised their family in Prince George's County, Maryland. In adulthood RobertJr. worked for the State Department in Washington, DC and Gaila was employedby the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis, Maryland. Ernestine and Robertwere extremely proud of their children and their many accomplishments.After retiring Ernestine and Robert moved to West Palm Beach, Florida and madethe sunshine state their home. Ernestine was a woman with many skills. She wasa seamstress, a tailor and she could knit, crochet and needle point. She just had aknack for using her hands to make beautiful things.Ernestine was also quite adventurous. In her later years, she travelled extensivelythroughout Europe, Asia, and Africa, and visited many of the Caribbean andHawaiian islands. Ernestine hiked in the Swiss Alps and climbed the SydneyHarbor Bridge in Australia. On many of these excursions she traveled alone, butwas quick to make friends with other tour participants. In addition, she was achampion bowler, exercised regularly, played shuffle board and participated insewing bee groups. Upon turning 90, Ernestine treated herself to a sky diving tripand loved every minute of the flight.Needless to say, Ernestine was a very active and independent lady who lived life tothe fullest and never let any grass grow under her feet. She lived alone and wasdriving up until she passed. She transitioned peacefully on Sunday April 18, 2021.Ernestine's husband and children preceded her in death. She is survived by fourloving grandchildren, Tonya Pryor, Robert Pryor III ( Sika), Tammy Pryor; andDana Pryor; eight great grandchildren, Jeremy, Robert IV, Jaden, Dejah, Destiny,Delon, King and Yancy; two nieces Janice Scarborough and Maxine Rice(Ronald); and one nephew, Edward Pryor .Ernestine valued friendship and will be missed by many friends, among themReginald Carter, Yvonne Colston, Yvonne Dowtin, Arthur Dyer, Edith Dyer,Eloise Foster, Frank LaFountain, Pamela Marshall, Gail McClain and Bernard andHyacinth Quashie.Ernestine's life epitomizes the famous Sinatra song, MY WAY. Ernestinedefinitely DID IT HER WAY. May she rest in peace.In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to theGaila M.
