Dee Floyd

Dee Olson Floyd, age 80, of Ocala, FL left us Thursday, December 17th on his final adventure. He always enjoyed traveling and exploration, and this time he headed out for Heaven.He was born on May 29, 1940 in Weldon, IL to William Ottis and Marjorie (Olson) Floyd. He grew up on a small farm in central Illinois with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. It was a good life. He graduated from Deland-Weland High School in 1958 and then from Illinois State University in 1962. He was a born salesman, and his final occupation was owner of Southern Supply in Ocala, Florida. After selling his business and retiring, he continued to do many part-time jobs to stay active and busy in the community. He was one of those "bigger than life" personalities, who never met a stranger. Neighbors and friends were a significant part of his life.Dee married Joan Willis on June 5, 1971. She survives him along with their children--Cathy (John) Davis, Ocala, FL, Mill (Diana) Floyd, Elkhart, IN, Brad Wunderlich, Columbia, SC, Scott Floyd, Blue Springs, MO, Craig (Shelby) Floyd, Clearwater, FL, Tina Floyd, Ocala, FL, Barry (Carol) Floyd, Weatherford, TX--12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.He is also survived by his sister Kay, who lives in Indiana, as well as by many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. They were all very special to him, and they called him "Oley" as a term of endearment. Dee always looked forward to the many family reunions that were held to keep the family connected. He also loved it when anyone would come to Florida to visit him.Dee was a child of God and a faithful member of the Ocala West United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge.Dee lived his life for his wife, Joan, and their children and grandchildren.His friends and family are all left with a very heavy heart, but a heart full of memories, as they look forward to seeing him again one day.Family and friends may call from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 29th, 2020. Viewing will be held at Roberts Bruce Chapel West, 6241 SW SR-200, Ocala, FL 34476. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
