Wavel "Denny" Harris

Wavel "Denny" Harris, a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, departed this world on June 13, 2025, in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 79. Born on November 22, 1945, in the serene town of Alston, Clarendon, Jamaica, Denny was a man whose laughter and humor earned him many friends. Denny’s early years were spent in Jamaica, where he received his primary education while being raised by his sisters, laying the foundation for his strong work ethic and resilient spirit. In 1984, he embarked on a new chapter, moving to Brooklyn, New York in hopes of betterment for his family. It was there that Denny applied his hardworking nature to a career in truck driving before transitioning into construction. His hands helped shape the city, with one of his proudest contributions being his work on the World Trade Center, as it stands today. It is a testament to his dedication and skill. In 2008, Denny entered into his retirement from the Local 731 Excavators Union after dealing with some health concerns that led him to live a more relaxed lifestyle. He spent much of his time as an avid sports enthusiast reveling in the thrill of baseball, tennis, soccer, football, and cricket. Those who knew Denny best would describe him as loving, funny, and passionate. His infectious humor and warm, engaging personality made him a beloved figure in his family. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Harris of Ocala, Florida, his daughter Deidre Harris of Ocala, Florida, his sons Bruce Bent of Brooklyn, New York, and Terrence Bent of Spanish Town, Jamaica, and his sisters Lola Martin of Brooklyn, New York, and Yvonne of Baltimore, Maryland. His legacy also lives on in his adored grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, who will miss his guidance and affection deeply. Preceded in death by his loving parents, Castira and Quentin Harris, and his dear son Kenneth Harris, Denny leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an unwavering passion for life. Denny's life was a journey of joy, perseverance, and love, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by those who loved him.
