Vivene McFarlane

On Sunday January 1, 2023, Vivene Mae Mcfarlane, loving partner, mother of four,grandmother of five and great grandmother of two passed away at the age of sixty-five. Sheis survived by her husband, James, and daughters Mavis, Jasmine, Jamilee and sonJerome. Grandmother to Amoy, Jodie-Ann, Maya, Mia and Amyra; great grandmother toKah'Liyah and Azyion. She is also survived by her siblings Peggy, Polly, Angie, Sandra andBibs. Many nieces and nephews and a family of close, loving friends. Vivene was a firmbeliever in the power of knowledge and education even though she never pursued a highereducation herself, she always encouraged all of her children to do so. Vivene migrated tothe United State in 1989 and began working as a home care worker and later on as a homehealthcare worker. Vivene loved her family and friends and was always willing to help inwhatever ways she could or give her best advice to whomever needed it. She was a flowerlover, a laugher, a traveler, a great cook and a Godly woman. Vivene was best known forher sense of humor and sarcasm, her kindness, her generous spirit and her strength.Vivene was the fourth child born to Zillah and Eli Brown. She was born in the parish of St.Elizabeth JA and later moved to Danvers Pen, in the parish of St. Thomas at the age of twoafter her father passed away. She attended basic, primary and high school in St. Thomasand later became a grocery store operator. She started her first store on the veranda of herfirst house with the dream of expanding. Eventually she found a store for rent in Mt.Lebanusdistrict and she jumped on the opportunity. She ran a successful grocery store, bar and attimes a movie theater. She raised her three older kids with her previous husband Horace.Vivene started traveling to the US in 1989 because she wanted to make a better life for herfamily, in 1992 she permanently migrated. She worked several live-in jobs to take care ofher children. She devoted every other Sunday to calling us, making sure everyone wasdoing okay. She was a hard worker, very business savvy and a smart saver. Her dreamwas to open a restaurant because of her passion for cooking. The name was to be ThreeJ's. Vivene moved to Ocala, Florida in 2007 with her youngest daughter Jamilee due to thecold weather of NYC. She worked primarily in health care as a home health aide/ patientcare tech. Moving to Florida is what drew her closer to God. Shortly after moving shededicated her life to the lord and joined Bethel Baptist Church. Vivene was well known forher cooking In her New York days, she always cooked for her and James annual bbq's thatdrew crowds. She brought down that fabulous cooking and was always requested at churchto cook. Vivene always wanted to share her cooking , countless times she shared food withothers, even strangers but mostly her close friends and neighbors down to Jamilee's friendsand co-workers sending in requests. When she was not cooking she was on the go sheloved to travel even if it was just to keep someone company while they drive. She was verydependable and someone you could count on no matter what, she may judge you just alittle but she always wanted you to know she was there. When Vivene was diagnosed withBreast Cancer she showed everyone she knew what a strong and remarkable woman shewas and she fought this disease until the very end.
