Obituary of Shirley HendricksShirley Agnes Wallace Hendricks, age 93, of Ocala, Florida passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Avante of Ocala. She was born in Washington, D.C. on May 25, 1918, at Sibley Memorial Hospital, to the late James S. Wallace, Sr. and Agnes E. Russell Wallace. At the age of (4) she moved to Silver Spring, Md. and at age (7) she moved to Norfolk, VA. She attended Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. and graduated in 1936. Following her graduation, she attended the Lucy Webb Hayes, School of Nursing, at Sibley Memorial Hospital, at Washington, D.C., where she was born. She continued working there from 1939 through1942. Then she moved to Norfolk, VA, and continued her nursing at Lugh Memorial Hospital, for the next 6 months. Then she worked at Private Duty Nursing , for a while. She moved to Ocala, FL. in 1955 from Memphis, TN.,where she continued her nursing at Munroe Regional Medical Center for (16) years, retiring in 1983. She is a loving and devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Ocala, a member of the Eutawba Sunday School Class, Pray Shawl Ministry and the United Methodist Women (Sarah Circle). Shirley dearly loved her Church, as well as her loving family. She loved to crochet, knit, read and doing crossword puzzles She was preceded in death by her sister, Helon Mae Horne. She is survived by her younger brother, James Solomon Wallace, Jr. of Newbern, N.C.; her (4) children, Ann S. Dossett, Carol (Mike) Eatmon, William (Cleola) Hendricks and Linda (Kenneth) Gerds; her (9) grandchildren, Trevor (Kim) Eatmon, Kyle Hendricks, Leslie (William) Weaver, Ryan (Caroline) Gerds, Lynn (Shirley) Dossett, Matthew Dossett, Rayna (Mike) Pounds, Thomas (Laura) Gerds and Christopher Dossett, along with her 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 11, 2011 at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with interment to follow in the cemetery. The visitation will be from the Roberts Funeral Homes, Downtown Chapel, 606 S.W. 2nd Avenue, Ocala, Florida, 34471, on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ocala, "Reach", in Memory of Shirley Agnes Wallace Hendricks.
