Luella Nazaruk

Luella Henderson Muir Nazaruk of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023, at the E.W. and Lucille Cates Hospice House. Luella was born in Mechanicville, New York, to Fred Muir and Ella Sibley Muir on January 15, 1923. She attended Mechanicville High School and graduated in 1939. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 1943 from the State University of New York at Fredonia. She worked as a music teacher in Suffolk County and Nassau County, New York, and in Marion County, Florida, for 27 years. She enjoyed raising her children, the arts especially - music, reading, gardening, dancing with her husband, going to the beach on the Atlantic coast, and socializing with friends. Luella was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala, where she was an Honorary Member of the National Presbyterian Women; National Education Association and the Florida Education Association. After retiring, she volunteered at Munroe Memorial Regional Hospital for 25 years. Over the years, she was a member of the Lake Weir Yacht Club, Florida Thorobred Fillies Club, and the Ocala Dance Club. She served in various elected officer positions in many of these organizations. Luella is survived by her son, Gary Nazaruk (Nancy Jo) of Boerne, Texas; her daughter, Pamela Valenzuela (George) of Alexandria, Virginia; nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by Fred Nazaruk, her husband of 64 years; Fred and Ella Muir, her parents; and Robert Muir, her brother. Throughout her life, Luella encouraged and inspired her children, nieces, nephews, and all others she came in contact with. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala, 511 S.E. Third Street, Ocala, FL 34471.
