Lorraine Stiefvater Millan

Lorraine Stiefvater Millan, age 74, a resident of Ocala, Florida, died on June 9, 2022, following a short battle with lung cancer. She was born on August 16, 1947, in New York City, New York, to the late John Stiefvater, Jr. and the late Billie (Hawley) Stiefvater. Lorraine lived where life took her whether that was in Long Island, NY; Nuremberg, Germany; Fairfax, Virginia; or her final destination in Ocala, Florida, where Lorraine and the love of her life and best friend, the late David Millan called home. From the moment they met until David's death in 2003, they spent time boating (Catchin 'L' or Catching 'L' Again), eating blue crabs, or celebrating milestones between their blended families. Born into a family where serving one's community or country was the highest calling, Lorraine found purpose as an emergency medical technician, rising to the rank of EMS Lieutenant with the Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department in Virginia for 11 years. She also worked as an orthodontic technician as a means to raise her only son, whom she nicknamed 'B.' The love for her only son was undeniable and unmeasurable. One of their fondest memories together was during B's younger years. At the end of Lorrain's work shift, on Christmas Eve, she would rush home to pick him up and head to a nearby tree lot to bring home their Charlie Brown-ish looking Christmas tree. Lorraine is survived by her only son, Bill (April) Hershman; grandkids Nate Thompson-Hershman, Mackenzie Kropidlowski and Eric Kropidlowski; sister Barbara Stermer; extended family members, several close friends, including furry ones. She was preceded in death by her husband David Millan; father John Stiefvater; mother Billie (Hawley) Stiefvater; step-mother Eunice Stiefvater; step-sister Jeanne McAdams; and step-brother Robert Eluszkiewicz. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff of E.W. & Lucille Cates House-Hospice of Marion County, Florida, and to her local friends for always having her back. According to Lorraine's wishes, please remember her based on memories made not her final days. There will be no funeral but rather a private celebration of her life and service.
