John Wayne Sigley

John Wayne Sigley, of Ocala FL, passed away on March 31, 2026 at the age of 81. Known as “Wayne” to his family and “John” to his friends and colleagues, he was a man of remarkable courage, dedicated service, and deep kindness. Wayne was born in Elizabeth NJ on December 13, 1944 to Karl L. and Thelma L. Sigley. He was a native of Elizabeth NJ before his family moved to Roselle Park NJ where he graduated from Roselle Park High School. Following graduation Wayne honorably served in the United States Army. As Private First Class he served in the Vietnam War. His extraordinary bravery on November 8, 1966 earned him The Bronze Star Medal with “V” (Valor) Device at age 21. His selfless conduct and heroic actions distinguished him as a soldier of the highest caliber. Other honors awarded to Wayne while serving in the Army include: Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars; National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Sharpshooter (Rifle); 1 st Class Gunner (M-60 MG). Upon returning to civilian life, Wayne dedicated his entire career to the United States Postal Service (USPS) as a Postman. His heroism continued while on the job; at age 24 he was honored by the USPS for a life-saving rescue attempt when he risked his own life by entering a burning apartment to save another as the fire department arrived. Wayne married Lori Ann Read on July 16, 1983. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, partnership, and devotion. They were best friends who shared laughter, adventures, and unwavering support for each other. Wayne and Lori enjoyed traveling together. Among their many cruises, their trip to Alaska held a particular special place in their hearts. Wayne is survived by a loving family including his sisters, Mary Lorraine Hart and Helen Eileen Denton; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Karl E. Sigley; and by his cherished wife, Lori. Wayne will be remembered by all who knew him for his love for his family, quiet strength, kindness, and his light-hearted sense of humor.
