Jean Ellsworth Brown, RN, BS, COHNJean was born in Poughkeepsie, NY to Frederick William Ellsworth and Jean (Thornton) Ellsworth. Jean was the youngest of five children. Her Ellsworth siblings all pre-deceased her and were Marian Jean, Katherine Ida, Edna Eleanor and James Frederick.She grew up in New York City. Graduated from a three-year Nurses Training at Kings County Hospital, School of Nursing, Brooklyn, NY. Her Nursing Career included 20 years Hospital Nursing, three years School Nursing-Teaching, twelve years Occupational Health Nursing (ten years manufacturing, three years City of Daytona Beach), and fourteen plus years in Medical Case Management. Additionally, she was a volunteer Ambulance Attendant for 4 years in Merrimack, NH, an Instructor for Emergency Medical Technicians, Instructor for American Red Cross First Aid and CPR, "Emergency Care for Nurses" at local Community Colleges both in New Hampshire and Florida.Her education included a Degree in Nursing, B.S. State University of New York, Certification in Occupational Health and Case Management Nursing. She was also a certified Emergency Medical Technician.Jean and her loving husband of over forty years, Halowell Egerton Brown (who predeceased her in 1992) raised their family in West Sayville, NY. They later resided in Merrimack, NH and Silver Springs, Fl. They had four children: Hal Gordon Brown (married to Charlanne), Police Captain (Retired) and Deputy Director, Delaware Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (Retired) of Eureka, Fl and Newark, DE, Douglas Robert Brown (married to Sherri), Entrepreneur and Business Owner of Ocala FL, Bruce Cameron Brown (married to Vonda), Captain (Select) serving in the U.S. Coast Guard of Elizabeth City, NC, and a daughter Lynn Ann Durante, a Personal Trainer and Water Aerobics Instructor of Keeneyville, IL. Jean is survived by seven Grandsons (Dalton Brown of Royal Palm Beach FL, Jordan Brown of New Braunfels TX, Colton Brown of Jacksonville, FL, Kenneth Brown of Newark, DE, Daniel Brown of Smyrna, DE, Frank Brown of NH, Christopher Durante of Morrison, CO, and eight Great-Grand children. She is survived by nieces Caryl Koses of Ormond Beach, FL, Penny Wolford of Virginia Beach, Va, Nancy Moehle of Scotia, NY and nephew John Ellsworth of Kansas City, MO.After finding a Patriot in Revolutionary War, she joined the Daughters of the American Revolution. She performed hundreds of hours of genealogical research to ensure her daughter Lynn and daughter-in-law Vonda were also adopted into the Daughters of the American Revolution. Jean's passions included her family, friends, the DAR, conservation of the earth, veterans affairs, history, genealogy and her local church. She was an avid gardener with a so-called "green thumb" and an avid reader, rarely without a book nearby. Her hobbies included sewing, doll house miniatures, collecting and making stuffed bears, doll collecting, scrap-booking, a variety crafts and personal computer technology. A passionate patriot and history buff, despite being her late seventies and early eighties, she learned website design which she managed with remarkable technological skill. Subsequently, she volunteered as an internet web master for the DAR as well as several other nursing and community related web sites.Jean loved animals. In her younger days, she she often had milking goats and other farm animals. In latter years, she developed a special love for rescue dogs which became her constant poodle companions; Toby, Molly, Charlie and Charlotte, as well as her Siamese cat, Sushi.A woman of heart, courage, dignity and passion her career was long and varied. Her poignant advice was "never stop exploring, learning and growing". To her family, Mom was a stalwart matriarch and pillar of strength, who embodied vitality, wisdom, candor, humor and compassion. She believed in striving to do one's best, learning from life's failures and always looking ahead. She inspired family and friends alike with her steadfast enthusiasm, energy and commitment to community. She left an indelible mark on so many lives. A memorial service will be held at Ft. King Presbyterian Church, Ocala Florida on Monday, November 28th at 10 AM with Reception to Follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ocala Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Post Office Box 612, Silver Springs, Florida 34489.
