Douglas Thompson

Douglas Alan Thompson Sr. Silver Springs, FL - Douglas Alan Thompson Sr. (Doug) of Ocala, Florida passed away June 9th, 2023 after a sudden illness. He was 81 years old. Doug was born November 8th, 1941 in Laconia NH; he was the son of the late Harold F Thompson and Shirley Huff Thompson. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Florence Menard Thompson and his brother Harold "Thommy" Thompson Jr. of Ocala, Florida. Doug is survived by his three children: Rebecca Turner and her husband Drew, Douglas Thompson Jr and his wife Betty and Rachel Patten and her husband Sean, as well as 8 grandchildren (Andrew, Adam, Chelsea, Zachary, Aaron, Austyn,Christopher and Alexander and 13 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter due in July. Doug grew up primarily in Bow NH. He served 3 years in the United States Navy.While stationed in Key West he met Florence Menard at the Miami Beach Servicemen's Center; they later married in 1962. Eventually they moved north settling in Hooksett, NH to raise their family. Doug was a Baker by trade and loved to have different hobbies. He made sinkers and fishing poles for deep sea fishing, he enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends,he had an aviary with a large variety of birds and he even took up Tole Painting for awhile. He also appreciated time he spent in his greenhouse in the backyard in Hooksett but most of all he had an amazing talent for woodworking. He loved making furniture and other items for the family. Doug really took pride in every hobby he had. He loved the moments he could share and teach others about it. Although Doug and Florence retired to Silver Springs, Florida almost 14 years ago, they always looked forward to their trips to NH to see family as well as having their doors open whenever family went down to see them. They were always proud to showoff family to their close knit community who had become like a second family not just to them, but to all of us. Doug always made time for his neighbors helping in any way he could; he was loved by all who knew him. Graveside Services will be held at NH Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen, NH on July 11th at 3pm.
