Dorothy Sreenan

Dorothy Sreenan, a beloved matriarch with a gift for storytelling and a zest for life, passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2025, with her best friend, Linda Sullivan, at her side. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories. She was born on October 26, 1927, in Sublette, IL, to Andrew and Nancy (Turner) Bulfer. Dorothy often shared vivid tales of her childhood growing up on a farm, painting a picture of simpler times that shaped her hardworking nature. She graduated from Amboy High prior to her journey to business college, where she met the love of her life, Edward Sreenan. They married on July 4, 1950, and celebrated 62 years together until his passing in 2014. They created a warm and welcoming home, adopting brothers Duane and Danny, whom they provided with a life rich in love and opportunity. She was preceded in death by both sons, her brothers Joseph, John Lester, Arthur, Gilbert, Harry, Leo, Dennis, and her sisters Mary, and Catherine, who died in infancy. She is survived by her sister, Ellen Jones; granddaughters Amber, Stephanie, Daphne, and Lauren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Edward and Dorothy resided in Rockford, IL, until moving to Ocala, FL, after retirement. A devout Catholic, Dorothy was a woman of faith who found solace through prayer. They were both very active members of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, their community, and their church. Dorothy had a talent for finding joy in the everyday—whether it was driving for the sheer relaxation of it, playing solitaire, or doting on her beloved Chihuahuas, Rascal and Penney. Post-retirement, Dorothy thrived at Winn-Dixie, starting as a food sampler and eventually managing the seafood and meat department, showcasing her determination and strong work ethic. Dorothy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and dog lover. Her warmth, humor, and indomitable spirit will be dearly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church, 4047 NE 21st St, Ocala, FL 34470, on Tuesday, January 28, at 10:00 am. Visitation will precede the Mass from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the same location. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, 5050 SW 20th St, Ocala, FL 34474. Following interment, friends and family are invited to share in a Celebration of her Life at the Marion Pines clubhouse, 2828 NE 49th Ave, Ocala, FL 34470. Flowers may also be delivered to Our Lady of the Springs Catholic Church prior to the service.
