Dorothy Smith

Dorothy G. Smith Ocala - Age 91, of Ocala, Fl. passed away on November 4, 2022. Born in Wilmington, DE on November 23, 1930 to Russell and Violet Grant. She was a 1948 graduate of P.S. DuPont High School. After high school she worked as a cashier for Hearn's Brothers in Delaware. She married Richard Parker Smith on May 28, 1949, and they were married 35 years, until his passing on August 10,1984. She worked as a homemaker and office cashier, then later on as a waitress for Sunray Drugs and the Charcoal Pit on Concord Pike. She was involved in her children's activities, such as Cub Scouts, where she served as a den mother. She was an avid bowler for many years. She enjoyed hosting large family gatherings such as the family reunions each Christmas and neighborhood parties and dinners. Dorothy and Richard relocated to Ocala, Fl in 1979. In her later years she enjoyed cruises with her friends, and dancing with the Bonnie Belles Dance Troupe. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Wayne Grant, Russell Grant, and William Grant; her sister, Mary Miller; and her great grandson Richie McLaughlin. She is survived by her siblings, Robert Grant, Shirley McCamley, and Joseph Grant; her sons, Lawrence P. Smith and his wife, Judy, of Tampa, Fl and Steven R. Smith and wife, Donna, of New Castle, De; daughters, Dottie Newton and her husband, William, of Westminster, Co and Carol Smith-Atkins and her husband, Randy, of High Springs, Fl. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Deana Grubb and her husband, Bill, and her great granddaughter Katie Hensley and husband, David; Cheryl Brainard and her husband, John, her great grandchildren, Brenden Berg and Taylor DiVenti, and a great great grandson Alexander DiVenti; her granddaughter, Amanda Lindsey and her husband, Rob; her grandson Nick Lindsey and his wife, Robyn, her great grandchildren Matthew, McKenna, and Melodie; her grandson Richard Thompson and his wife, Cori, and her great grandsons Carter and Emory; her grandson Curtis Thompson and his wife, Yvette, and her great grandsons, Maxwell and Brett; and her grandson Kanyon Atkins and his wife Allison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
