Calvin Rudolph Lynch

Calvin Rudolph Lynch, closed his eyes and left his earthly home on May 31, 2024. On August 17, 1962, Calvin was born to Carolyn C. Lynch and the late Randolph Lynch in Savannah, Georgia, where his father, was stationed at the time in the United States Air Force. After spending one year in Georgia, Calvin and his parents moved to Washington, D.C., where his parents are originally from. They lived in Washington, D.C. with Calvin’s great grandmother. Calvin attended DC public schools, Smothers Elementary, Carter G. Woodson Junior High and Howard D. Woodson Senior High. Calvin enjoyed the Boy Scouts of America. He went on camping trips and learned many life survival skills, obtaining many patches and pins of achievement. In high school, Calvin was very active in the H.D. Woodson Male Chorus. It was not just the singing, but there was a brotherhood that was forged that will never be broken. He also enjoyed the Foreign Language Club. He was a social butterfly, always participating in the Homecoming festivities. He also loved to work with one of the school counselors, Ms. Jackie Lovinggood. Not only did he enjoy it, she was very happy with his help and was an amazing mentor and friend. Calvin joined the United States Marine Corps immediately following High School in October 1980. He obtained special training on how to fix, and maintain Herera Helicopters. He was stationed in Cherry Point, NC after completing boot camp in Parris Island, SC. He served in the 1982 Lebanon War where he was responsible for maintaining the Herrera helicopters. Shortly after Beirut, Calvin retired from the Marine Corps but remained in North Carolina where he met and married his wife, Kimberly J. Robinson on October 1, 1984. They were married for 34 years. From this union, five children were born and raised along with a nephew. They later divorced, but remained the best of friends. Calvin was a hard worker and great provider for his family. He worked at Pizza Hut, Golden Flake and finally decided to learn how to drive tractor trailer trucks. Driving cross country in his big truck was one of his passions. He was fearless, sometimes winding up in bad weather, but braving the challenge. He spent time with his wife and children who kept him busy attending sporting events, especially tee ball, softball, and many other activities. Calving joined and was baptized at Hughes Memorial Methodist Church located in Washington, DC in 1979. While there, he enjoyed singing in the choir. Calvin loved to shop and socialize at flea markets. He also loved to talk to friends and relatives in his spare time. His infectious laugh always brought smiles and laughter to everyone. He was a diehard Washington Commanders fan. His favorite pastimes were cooking, fishing and watching a good show on TV with a cold beer. He was also no stranger to danger, always wanting to know what was going on. If there was a police or fire engine in the area, he would want to know what happened and was willing to lend a helping hand if needed. He traveled and worked oversees with the Halliburton Company in Iraq, moving dangerous convoys of supplies from one military base to the next. It was very dangerous, but the pay was great, so he was up to the challenge. During his down time while in the Middle East, he spent time in Dubai and Thailand. Thailand being one of his favorite places in the world. He also traveled many places from the East Coast to the West Coast in the United States, Canada and Mexico while driving for Smithfield, Swift and Oakley trucking companies. Calvin himself was a frugal person, but was unselfish to the needs of others. Calvin leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted and loving mother, Carolyn C. Lynch; second mother, Delphine Lynch; children, Chance Robinson (Telia), Shana Nacol Lynch (Quentin), Brandon Craig Lynch (Jessica), Deavyn Evans (Nikki), Cory Lynch, and Rhyan Lynch and their mother Kimberly; 18 grand children; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Alicia M. Myers (Floyd), brother, the late Ethrium Reese (Sandy); dear friend Elana; longtime over-the-road buddies, “AC”, “Paper Chaser”, “Night Stalker”, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends he met and shared his life’s journey. He will be greatly missed by ALL.
