Barbara Lockridge Smith

Barbara L. Smith, age 82, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026. She was born on December 18, 1943, to Earl and Evelyn Lockridge at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, Dalton, Georgia. She graduated from Dalton High School in 1962 and attended Women's College of Georgia (Now Georgia College & State University) for three years prior to marrying her high school sweetheart at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on June 18, 1966. She started out working for Southern Bell in Atlanta, then, joining her husband in Germany, she became assistant to the Officer's Club Manager in Hanau, Germany. After returning to the States with her husband in 1971, she worked for AT&T in Atlanta until she and her husband moved back to Dalton in 1972. She soon went back to work, becoming assistant to the Transportation Director for Coronet Industries and later secretary for two of the senior administration officials of the company, one of which was the legal advisor for the company. She and her husband became very active in the community, having a real passion for the Creative Arts Guild, where she was at different times festival co-chair, PALS original co-chair, and board member, and for Saint Mark's Episcopal Church, where she was Acolyte Advisor for several years. Not long after Barbara and her husband moved to Brooksville, Florida in 1988, her husband started his own architectural firm and she became administrator. In 1999 she and her husband became very much involved in helping her mother, Evelyn Lockridge, who was in failing health They helped her move to Brooksville and then into an assisted living facility. In 2003, Barbara, her husband, and her mom moved to Ocala where her husband became a partner in a larger firm, and she was able to focus on helping her mom until her mom's passing in 2005. Unfortunately, while in Ocala, Barbara began to have numerous health issues and was seriously ill for several years. Fortunately, she was able to stay at home with her husband and always had a wonderfully positive attitude until her passing. Barbara and Ted celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 18, 2026. She is survived by her husband, Ted Smith and her sister-in-law, Nancy S. Lee. Service to celebrate the life of Barbara will be held, Friday July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Father Rick Tiff officiating. The family will receive friends, Friday July 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
