Audrey Marie Edwards-Samouge

Audrey Marie Edwards-Samouge was born in the village of Waterford, in the parish of St. Mary, Jamaica, to Calvin Edwards and Violet Plummer on April 22, 1942. At the tender age of 18, she and Edward Roye became parents to their first son, Elvis Roye. Desiring to give him a better life, she made the hard decision to leave him behind in Jamaica with her sister, Rolda and immigrate to England with his father. While there she gave birth to her youngest son, Everton Roye. Audrey had a love for learning! She was always on a quest to expand her knowledge. She applied herself and achieved a sound education that culminated with her earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She worked at the London transport as a conductor, followed by a stint at the Woolworths company as an accountant during the twelve years she lived in England. In 1973 she returned to Jamaica and began working for the Cadbury chocolate company. There she met her current husband Wilbert Samouge and engaged in an extended courtship that lasted five years. They officially “tied the knot” on 18 th June 1978, and have been together for 51 years. In 1976 Audrey decided to immigrate to the United States where she worked for the Methodist church head office in New York as an accountant. She also worked as a temp clerk for CBS and Simmons manufacturing. In 1984 Audrey became a grandmother to Tanisia Roye as a result of her son Elvis union with Genista Lewis, followed by Lewis Roye as a result of her son’s, Everton union with Cecilia Paul, soon followed by Caleb Roye as a result of her son Everton is union with Marcia Pinnock. Audrey transitioned from this life on January 12, 2024, after a short period of illness with her loving husband of 51 years, by her side. Audrey is predeceased in death by her parents, and sister, Rolda Jutan. She leaves to cherish her memory, her Loving and devoted Husband of forty-five years, (fifty-one years in total), Wilbert Samouge; Sons, Elvis (Angela) and Everton Roye (Marcia); Grandchildren Tanisia Moore (Lutis), Lewis and Caleb Roye, Great-grandchildren, Sydney, Savannah and James Moore; brother, Perry Edwards (Gloria), sister, Veleta Edwards. Also, niece, Patricia Edwards, nephews, Steve Derizzio (Liz); Cleve Edwards and Paul Edwards (Delease).
