Allen Wayne Richard

Allen Wayne Richard Sr., 78, of Ocala, FL, was a cherished man known by all for his constant smile and sense of humor. He passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Allen was the beloved husband of Maria (Medeiros) Richard, and the late Carol (Souza) Richard, who passed away in 1982. Born in New Bedford, MA, Allen was the son of the late Joseph A. Richard and Irene (Ferreira) Richard. He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Allen attended school in New Bedford and worked for many years at Dartmouth Finishing as a machine operator, and was a security guard at both Columbia Electronics and Aerovox. He also served as a local constable and was a member of the Auxiliary Police. In 1995, he moved to Florida, where he lived in Port St. Lucie and worked for the local school department as a bus driver and warehouse attendant until retiring in 2014. He later relocated to Ocala in 2023. Allen was always ready for a new adventure. He generously volunteered his time with the Whaling City Festival, served as a Boy Scout troop leader, supported local wrestling events, and loved strolling through flea markets on Sundays. He found great joy traveling with family and friends—especially on cruises—and most recently fulfilled a meaningful journey to Jerusalem. He and Maria took great pride in tending to their flower garden together. Allen was a role model to many younger people who admired him. If you were lucky, you might catch him cleaning the house on the weekend while dancing to Donna Summer. He loved indulging in pasta, meatballs, and ice cream. He also adored his pets: Sky King, Peewee, Sam, Smoky, and Nina. Allen is survived by his son Allen W. Richard Jr. and companion Katie Robitaille; his daughter Crystal L. Richard and companion Steven Dourado; his stepson Steven Medeiros and wife Jill (Roelle) Medeiros; and his stepdaughter Janice (Medeiros) Sousa and husband Al Sousa. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Amanda Richard, Brenden Verrier, Savannah Verrier and her companion Brandon Pacheco, Megan (Medeiros) Mitchell, and Reese Sousa; great-grandchild Oaklynn Pacheco. Allen is also survived by his siblings: sister April R. Richard; his brother Scott Richard; his sister Diane Richard; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Roland Richard, Leo Richard, and Joseph "Puggy" Richard Jr. Allen, you are forever in our hearts. We will always love and miss you. You brought so much joy to our family—more than words can ever express. We salute you. We honor you for an infinite number of reasons. We celebrate you and offer our deepest gratitude for all that you were and all that you gave. Your spirit will live on in all of us. A mass will be held on Thursday June 19th at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 12pm in Ocala, FL. All friends and family are welcome. A second mass and Celebration of Life will be held in New Bedford, MA. in the near future.
