    Nancy Jean Schmidt

    June 19, 1939 - November 24, 2021

Dear Friends and Family, on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, our mother, Nancy Jean Schmidt passed away peacefully in her sleep under the care of Hospice of Marion County at Hawthorne of Ocala-Garden Court. She was 82. Nancy was born June 19, 1939 to William and Lillian Carver in Detroit, Michigan. She was preceded in death by our dad, William "Bill" K. Schmidt, Jr, both her parents and all of her siblings, William ("Billy") Carver, Sally ("Sal") Rudnik and Frances ("Fran") Scott. She married the love of her life, Bill (a retired Detroit Police Sergeant), on July 6, 1957 and enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage until his sudden passing, October 4, 2014. She missed him terribly every day since. She was the dear mother of Michelle (David) Wire and William (Jacqueline) Schmidt; Loving nana of Jennifer Timm (Ross), Jacob (Kadie Lynne) Schmidt, Sarah Schmidt and Chance Wire; and precious great-nana of Alexis Cooper and Rylan Mayer. She was adored by a number of loving and caring nieces and nephews. In the early years, Nancy cared for children in her home and then later worked at the Penobscot Building in downtown Detroit for many years. After retiring to Spring Hill, Florida, Nancy returned to school to become a Certified Nurse Aid and she had a passion for caring for patients in a memory care unit for a number of years. Most importantly, she loved her life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and an aunt. Nancy was an active member of the Retired Detroit Police and Fire Club of Florida, filling the role of secretary and treasurer over the years. She enjoyed her time crocheting afghans for all of her family, as well as many for charity donations and gifts. She loved reading Danielle Steele novels, playing cards and Michigan Rummy (the penny game), working a challenging puzzle or crossword, or playing her organ. She will be loved and remembered by many friends and family. Interment will be a private family gathering at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida where she will be laid to rest with her loving husband. Together Again... In place of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nancy's honor to Operation From The Heart (http://www.opfth.org).
