Woodrue Charles Johnson, “Woody” was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 5, 1924. In his lifetime he loved and cared for his wife of 58 years, Elinor Jane Davies Johnson and children, Alan Johnson (Pamela) Ocala FL and SaraJane Tompkins, Grand Marais MN. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Woody lived most of his life near the great lakes in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan.
Woody was at peace when he left this world passing of natural causes on January 24, 2019. He enlisted in the Army in December of 1942 while he was attending University of Wisconsin, Madison. After basic and specialized training, he was assigned to the European Theatre and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. When WWII ended, he married Elinor in Haverfordwest, Wales in October 1945 and they moved to Wisconsin. Together they helped run the family business, Deer Trail Lodge on Lake Nokomis at Heafford Junction, WI. Woody spent most of his working career as a heating engineer in the Midwest.
After retirement he cared for Elinor until her passing in 2003. In 2006 he moved to Marquette, MI and lived near his daughter. Here he became involved in volunteering for Habitat for Humanity gaining recognition at the state level for his service at the Habitat Restore in Marquette. He moved to Ocala Florida in October of 2016 to be near his son and the warmer climate.
