Mary Spiewak died after a week at Hospice Legacy House. She had suffered from Alzheimers for over twenty years and had been living in Brookdale at Paddock Hills Memory Care since 2014.
Mary Spiewak was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and lived most of her life there. She was the second of four sisters who are all deceased. Mary was married to Theodore Spiewak for 59 years until his death April 18, 2008. She is survived by her daughter Claudia Spiewak and son-in-law Mark Waiwada. She lost her only son David Spiewak in 1993. Great Aunt Mary is remembered by many surviving nieces, nephews and their children.
Mary had the gift of music. She could play the piano by ear and was able to pick up many other instruments including the accordion and guitar. She always sang in the church choir and senior choral groups in Tonawanda NY. An active Auxilary member of Legion Post 1041, she enjoyed many of their social events with Ted.
Mary and Ted moved to her daughter's Ocala, FL home in 2007 and shortly thereafter into Assisted Living at Summerville then Emeritus. In 2010, she moved back with her daughter and loved attending Blessed Trinity Elder Care. During that time she visited almost all of the 170 Florida state parks and RV camped in many. She also went to weddings and family gatherings in Atlanta and Buffalo.
Mary was a fun loving person with a great sense of humor that continued throughout her dementia. She shared her love of music, cocktails and her joy with many over her long life. She will be missed.
Her cremated remains will eventually be interred beside her husband's at Bushnell National Cemetery.
