A fella named Barton H. Martinez, well known by his loved ones "Gil" was called to his final rest on Sunday, April 21st, with his family by his side. He was a man full of jokes, laughter and a smile that would light up a room. Born and raised in Philadelphia, then moved to Ocala from New Jersey in 1994, where he spent the last 25 years with his wife of 30 years.
He was predeceased by his loving father Pascual, brother Kenny, and sister Patti.
He is survived by his wife Claribel; Mother Mary; Daughters Cheryl and fiance Kenneth, son Anthony and wife Lynn, daughter Leylani, son Barton and wife Ally, daughter Barbara, daughter Arielle, and son Christopher and wife Ashley; Grandchildren Daniel, Anthony, Arianna, Karl, Gabriella, Mason, Layla and Ava; Brother Douglas and sisters Miriam, Ivette and Edna; And the many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gil had a deep love for his morning outings with his coffee club friends where he shared plenty of laughs, a good cup of coffee, some fresh, soft, Cuban bread and loved to debate politics. He had a green thumb for his lemon tree that he tended to everyday. He adored his family and grandkids whom they were the light of his day and his motherland of Puerto Rico. Most of all, he loved his hometown of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia teams. But most of all, his Philadelphia Eagles. Watching the birds win their first Super Bowl in 2018 brought tears to his eyes. Gil will be truly missed.
