Gerald R. Cassatt, 75, passed peacefully Monday June 4th, 2018 after a brief hospitalization. Born May 27th, 1943 in Niagara Falls, NY, the 4th child of Roy and Ethel Cassatt.
While attending Oakland City College in Indiana, Jerry was drafted into the US Army and was deployed to Würzburg Germany for his service during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he finished his degree at Niagara Community College and married his first love Sharon.
He worked as a machinist at General Motors and continued in the Army Reserve for 38 years until his retirement and move to Ocala, FL.
An avid reader and history buff, Jerry also enjoyed fishing and playing cards with friends Nancy & Tom Connors and Joe & Pat Purvis.
Jerry was the current President of Oak Run Veterans, Republican Club, President of 40/8, finance officer for American Legion Port 354, and was active in the Tea Party of Ocala.
Survived by his wife of 50 years Sharon (Willette) children Tracey and Daniel Perez of Cato, NY, Scott of Cedar Park, TX, grandchildren Benjamin and Kayla Perez of Peoria, AZ; Matthew Perez of Dublin, GA, Kendal Cassatt of Blasdell, NY and Sarah Perez of Cato, NY. A brother Lawrence in Batavia, NY and sister Elaine and Myron Wrobel in Charlotte, NC, cousins Judy and Paul Wells of Raleigh NC, and Bonny & Johannas Fuchs of Tega Cay, SC. Lifelong friends Edwin and June Lipa, along with many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother William and granddaughter Hannah Perez.
Calling hours are on Monday, June 11 at 10am, Christ’s Church of Marion County. Full military honors at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
