Costello, Deborah Lockwood "Bobbie" Ferguson, 88
Bobbie Costello passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Estelle's House in Ocala, Florida. She was the first baby born at Munroe Memorial Hospital on July 2, 1929, and was a lifetime resident of Ocala and Ft. McCoy. She was a fifth generation Marion County Floridian, descended from pioneer families who began creating Ocala from wilderness in 1823. Bobbie was the oldest of four children born to Dr. Robert Donald Ferguson, Sr. and Cora Louise Lockwood Ferguson.
Bobbie attended Ocala public schools, the Bartram School for Girls in Jacksonville, nursing school at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. She later completed her degree as a registered nurse in Ocala. Bobbie assisted in the delivery of countless Ocala citizens, working for many years with obstetrician Dr. Keith Knorr. Over her lifetime, Bobbie enjoyed spending most of her time at the family's Lake Kerr home and raising her children on the family’s farm west of Ocala. In her later years Bobbie and Jack along several family members and close friends, greatly enjoyed spending time at their hunting cabin in Georgia. She loved all animals, gardening, and particularly enjoyed family vacations to their cabin in the western North Carolina mountains. Bobbie was an excellent cook and many have fond memories of her delicious meals and desserts.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Jack Powers Costello, sister Marcia "Sis" Louise Ferguson Brown, and grandson, Tristan Teal Costello. She is survived by daughters Deborah Gates of Ft. McCoy, Patricia Laster of Ocala, Dolores (Farrell) Asbell of Brevard, NC, sons Robert (Carol) Costello of Huntsville AL, John Costello of Inverness, and Stephen (Heidi) Costello of Ocala, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, and brothers Robert "Sonny"(Darian) Donald Ferguson, Jr. and James "Jimmy"(Barbara) Glase Ferguson, Sr., and lifelong friend James "Jimmy" Blocker.
