David J Lamport, 84, died October 6, 2019 at Legacy Hospice House after a short illness. He joined the City of Miami Police Department in 1956 first as Patrol Officer, then to the Motorcycle Squad and was a Motorcycle Police Officer until his retirement in 1977. After spending many vacations in Ocala he moved here permanently after his retirement but missed police work. He applied for a job with the Marion County Sheriff’s office in 1979 serving as a deputy in several divisions until he became the contract deputy for Rainbow Lakes Estates until his retirement in 1999. After his second retirement he spent some times traveling the United States with his loving wife and their dog Buffy.
David was born in 1934 in Bergenfield, NJ. After his family spent many summers in Coconut Grove he moved permanently to the Miami area with his family at the age of 12 and considered himself a Southerner. He was preceded in death by his parents Michel & Cornelia Lamport, his wife of 62 years Mercia Lamport, and sisters Isabelle O’Leary and Jacoba Butterfield. He is survived by his daughter Candi (Bob) Bramlett, Granddaughter Stephanie (Joe) Dotten, Grandson Keith (Jessica) Bramlett, Great-Grandsons Dylan & Dustin Dotten and Ryker & Tucker Bramlett all of Ocala, Florida. Great-Granddaughter Emili (Garryn) Berkman of Colorado Springs, CO, sister Marie Samuelson of Flagler Beach, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews.
