Billy J. Saunders of Dunnellon, Florida died on June 29, 2018. He was born to P.W. and Lucille (Conger) Saunders on August 5, 1930 in Oakwood, IL.
After graduating high school Billy enlisted in the USMC from 1948-51, Weapons Company, 3rd Batallion, 5th Marine, 1st Marine Division proudly serving his country during the Korean War in such places as the Puson Perimeter, Inchon, Seoul and the Choison Reservoir. Sgt. Billy J. Saunders was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He attended UIUC and graduated from Illinois State at Normal, IL in 1959 and retired after 26 years of teaching Industrial Arts in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margery Mariage. He is survived by his wife, Charlene (Sugie) and three sisters, Alice (Eugene) Poynter, Vicki (Larry) Prosser and Penny (Don) Morman.
Sgt. Saunders will be interred at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on July 13, 2018 with full military honors.
